The Front Line Socialist Party (FLSP) held its May Day march and rally in Colombo on 1st March 2026, parallel to the thousands of leftist and working-people’s rallies and marches throughout the world. The march and rally were held under the theme of “Working people’s power against imperialist brutality and the puppet government,” and the party’s affiliated organisations — the Workers’ Struggle Centre, Free Women, Revolutionary Student Union, Youth for Change, and the Farmers’ Struggle Movement — also attended. The slogans on banners and placards reflected numerous issues that the working people, women, youth and students in Lanka currently face, especially with the intervention of India, the IMF and Imperialist forces in Lanka and also the international issues such as the war on Iran, genocide in Gaza and imperialist threats to Venezuela and Cuba, etc. The colourful rally was held in Hyde Park with the participation of the leadership of the party, and it emphasised the role of the organised working people in an era where capitalism is in great crisis, and the more than enough objective conditions have matured all around the world.
Some of the main slogans were as follows:
1. Let’s unite to defeat the anti-people IMF program!
2. Withdraw the new laws that snatch away labour rights, including the Single Labour Law!
3. Abolish all oppressive laws, including ATA and OSA
4. Tax the profits of the capitalists—provide relief to the people!
5. Let’s fight for equal rights against national oppression and communalism!
6. Proletarian Internationalism against imperialist barbarism and the catastrophe of capitalism!
