ICOR Statement:
Against the Warmongers of NATO: Workers and the Oppressed Resist!
Strengthen the Mobilizations Against NATO and Imperialist Warmongering!
The next NATO summit will take place in July 2026, at which the states of the imperialist Western bloc will gather to coordinate their war plans. Created as an anti-communist alliance against the revolutionary achievements and potential of workers and the oppressed—above all against the then-socialist Soviet Union and its allies—the NATO alliance is responsible for unforgivable crimes.
This time, the summit will take place in Ankara, the capital of the fascist Turkish state. Turkey, with the second-largest NATO army, is a key player within the war alliance. For the imperialist powers, particularly the U.S., its geostrategic position makes it a central ally in the violent redrawing of the Middle East. But the Turkish state itself also intervenes militarily, politically, and economically in other countries in the region, in the Balkans, and in Africa, and seeks an expansionist extension of its own borders. While the masses suffer under fascist repression, inflation, and a crisis of impoverishment, the fascist regime invests enormous sums in military technology and weapons. The Turkish state under Erdogan is a threat to the workers and peoples of the region, above all the Kurdish people.
The permanent state of war in the Middle East has reached a new level of escalation, particularly due to the war of invasion waged by the fascist alliance of the U.S. and Israel against Iran, with open or covert support from NATO states. Worldwide, the ruling classes are intensifying their political and economic attacks on the working class. War, destruction, and brutality are driving the masses into misery and insecurity. The imperialist-capitalist world system is in a deep crisis and is desperately trying to find a way out of this hopeless situation. This goes beyond isolated military conflicts. The major imperialist powers are preparing for a large-scale war of redistribution and hegemony, for which they once again intend to exploit the oppressed classes as cannon fodder. Worldwide, rearmament, the deployment of new weapons technologies, and the reintroduction of conscription are on the agenda. Revolutionaries and resistance forces face large-scale, coordinated efforts aimed at their destruction. Today, Cuba is in the crosshairs of U.S. aggression, which is driving a global campaign aimed at eliminating revolutionary and progressive forces and achievements wherever they exist. In the Middle East, we are already seeing what could become a reality for far more people in the coming years: genocide, bombings, war crimes, and systematic violence against women and children. The war in Ukraine is an early sign of a possible imperialist world war, with NATO expansion and NATO’s aggressions playing a decisive role in triggering this war between two imperialist blocs—the U.S.-led NATO alliance and Russia.
One of the central institutions of these wars is NATO, and has been for 77 years now. With the end of the “Cold War,” NATO reorganized itself in accordance with the new conditions and needs of the imperialist world system. Its fundamental task, however, remained the same: the ruthless military enforcement of imperialist interests and the crushing of revolutionary movements. Despite internal crises within the alliance and growing contradictions among its member states, and despite the formation of new blocs in the wake of current imperialist rivalries—such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization—NATO remains one of the most important military tools of the Western imperialist powers for enforcing their global interests. The Western imperialists, led by the U.S., stand for exploitation and oppression. Therefore, resistance against this imperialist war alliance, NATO, is a responsibility of global significance.
The imperialist and reactionary wars of this world are not the wars of the workers and the oppressed, but are directed directly against them. That is why we resolutely oppose every form of imperialist aggression and fight for international resistance and solidarity among the oppressed classes and peoples.
As ICOR, we salute the mass mobilization of revolutionary and progressive forces against the NATO summit in Turkey, who are not bowing to fascist repression, and call for worldwide protests against NATO and imperialist warmongering. We demand the immediate release of the revolutionaries, socialists, and democrats who were arrested during the preparations for the anti-NATO and May Day mobilizations. We must not allow the imperialists and fascists of the world to gather—without the protest and struggle of the workers and broad masses—to plan their inhuman crimes.
Stop the imperialist and reactionary wars!
Dissolve NATO!
Long live international solidarity!
Struggle for peace, friendship among peoples, socialism!
Strengthen the ICOR!
