For over 50 days, the people of Bolivia have been rising up en masse through protests and nationwide road blockades against a package of reactionary laws proposed by the government of Rodrigo Paz. The miners form the backbone of these struggles. Farmers and teachers are also participating. Calls for the government’s resignation are growing louder. At the end of May, the ICOR issued a statement declaring its support for this significant uprising (see www.icor.info). We strongly condemn the government’s decision to impose a state of emergency. The police and military are being deployed to clear the blockades. As early as the end of December, state forces had already caused deaths during the protests that were just beginning at that time.
ICOR declares its firm solidarity with the justified uprising.
